Final Year Project
Project Title
StereoPolis
Description
Urban soundscaping has very recently been given serious attention by researchers who look at the way cities interact with the citizens that inhabit them. Previously, sounds in an urban environment have been seen as noise. StereoPolis presents a conceptual platform that uses acoustic ecology as a basis for data collection and attempts to provide a solution to this problem. Using acoustic data that is crowd-sourced, it maps out the different sounds across a cartographic region, as well as present multiple opportunities to use the platform as a visual representation of urban sounds, a database, an archive, and a way to understand how different parts of the city respond to sounds.
